9. Translate the following passage into Bengali: (10 marks)
English Passage:
Education is the backbone of a nation. No nation can make real progress without educating its citizens. Proper education broadens our outlook, removes prejudices, and instills noble moral values in human minds. It enables an individual to distinguish between right and wrong and encourages him to fulfill his duties toward family, society, and the homeland. Therefore, ensuring quality education for all sections of society is an imperative prerequisite for sustainable development.
10. Write a paragraph on “Metro Rail in Bangladesh” or “Importance of Learning English”. (10 marks)
Option A: Metro Rail in Bangladesh
The introduction of the Metro Rail marks an epoch-making milestone in the modern transport infrastructure of Bangladesh. Officially launched in Dhaka under the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT Line-6) project, the electric elevated train service has revolutionized urban transit in one of the most densely populated metropolises in the world. For decades, commuters in Dhaka suffered immense economic losses, environmental pollution, and psychological distress due to chronic traffic gridlock. The Metro Rail has transformed this reality by providing an ultra-fast, punctual, safe, and air-conditioned mass transit system that reduces travel time across key city hubs from hours to a few minutes. Powered by clean electrical energy, it contributes significantly toward mitigating carbon emissions and noise pollution. Equipped with modern automated ticketing, specialized accessibility for physically challenged passengers, and dedicated women-only coaches, the Metro Rail represents the tangible manifestation of a modern, smart, and technologically progressive Bangladesh.
Option B (Alternative): Importance of Learning English
In the contemporary era of globalization and rapid technological advancement, the importance of learning English can hardly be overemphasized. English is universally recognized as the principal global lingua franca, serving as the primary medium of international diplomacy, higher education, scientific research, aviation, and global commerce. For students of higher academic disciplines, including Islamic Studies and comparative theology, proficiency in English is an indispensable asset. It enables researchers to access classical translations, contemporary academic journals, and represent Islamic values and culture effectively on the international stage. In the modern job market, both at home and abroad, individuals equipped with strong English communication skills enjoy a distinct competitive advantage in career progression, multinational employment, and competitive civil service examinations. Furthermore, the vast majority of knowledge on the internet, software, and digital technologies is documented in English. Therefore, mastering the four fundamental skills of English—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—is not merely an academic requirement, but an absolute necessity for personal empowerment, intellectual enrichment, and active participation in the global community.
11. Write an application to the Principal of your Madrasah requesting permission to set up an English Language Club. (10 marks)
Formal Application
Date: 25 October 2022
To
The Principal
Darun Najat Siddikia Kamil Madrasah
Demra, Dhaka-1361
Subject: Application for permission to establish an English Language Club.
Sir,
With due respect and humble submission, we, the students of the Department of Al-Hadith and Islamic Studies (Fazil Honours 1st Year), beg to state that although our curriculum provides comprehensive knowledge in Islamic sciences and literature, our students often lack sufficient opportunities to develop communicative fluency and writing proficiency in English. In this modern era, proficiency in the English language is essential not only for higher academic research and international Islamic dissemination (Dawah) but also for excelling in competitive career examinations.
Establishing an “English Language Club” in our madrasah will provide an active and encouraging platform for learners to practice spoken English, conduct debates, build advanced vocabulary, and organize interactive seminars. Under the valuable guidance of our respected faculty members, this initiative will greatly inspire students to overcome their inertia and acquire functional mastery of the language.
We, therefore, fervently pray and hope that your honor would be benevolent enough to grant us permission and allocate a suitable room or schedule to set up the English Language Club, for which act of your kindness we shall remain ever grateful.
Yours obediently,
The Students of Fazil Honours 1st Year
Department of Al-Hadith and Islamic Studies
Darun Najat Siddikia Kamil Madrasah, Dhaka
