Part C: Composition (30 Marks)
10. Write a paragraph on “Internet”:
The Internet
The internet is undeniably the most transformative and revolutionary technological breakthrough of modern human civilization. It is a globally interconnected network of computers and digital devices operating under standardized communication protocols (TCP/IP), enabling instant information transmission across continents. Often described as the information superhighway, the internet has turned our vast world into an interconnected global village. In contemporary academic spheres, the internet acts as an inexhaustible digital library, granting students and researchers immediate access to electronic journals, international encyclopedias, historical archives, and interactive e-learning platforms. Beyond education, the internet has fundamentally revolutionized global commerce through e-commerce and digital banking, allowing transactions and cross-border trade to occur with a single click. Communication has been elevated to unprecedented heights through electronic mail, instant messaging applications, and video conferencing, effectively eliminating geographical boundaries. Government administration now delivers transparent public services via e-governance portals. However, this powerful instrument is not without pitfalls. Excessive addiction to social media, exposure to misleading information, cybercrimes, hacking, and online scams pose severe social and psychological challenges, especially to the impressionable younger generation. Therefore, while embracing the immense intellectual and socioeconomic benefits of the internet, students must cultivate digital literacy, self-discipline, and ethical responsibility to harness its potential constructively.
11. Write an application to the principal of your madrasah to start a digital library in your madrasah:
Date: 18 November 2021
To
The Principal,
Baitul Ulum Kamil Madrasah,
Chattogram, Bangladesh.
Subject: Application for establishing a modern digital library in the madrasah campus.
Sir,
We, the students of the Fazil (Honours) 2nd Year, Department of Islamic History and Culture, respectfully submit this application to bring an essential academic requirement to your kind consideration.
Our madrasah holds an illustrious reputation for imparting traditional Islamic knowledge alongside contemporary education. However, in this era of information technology and rapid digital transition, our existing library relies exclusively on printed physical volumes, many of which are single copies and often inaccessible to multiple students simultaneously. Classical Arabic manuscripts, international research journals, digitized historical encyclopedias, and software like ‘Al-Maktabah Al-Shamilah’ cannot be consulted without modern computer terminals and digital connectivity.
The establishment of a dedicated digital library section equipped with ten desktop computers, high-speed broadband internet, an e-book server, and printing facilities would revolutionize our research capabilities. It will enable students of Islamic History, Arabic Literature, and Quranic Studies to access rare global manuscripts, participate in international webinars, and prepare high-standard seminar papers.
We, therefore, earnestly pray that your honor would be benevolent enough to take the necessary administrative steps to set up a digital library in our madrasah at an early date, for which we shall remain ever grateful.
Yours obediently,
The Students of Fazil Honours 2nd Year,
Department of Islamic History and Culture,
Baitul Ulum Kamil Madrasah.
12. Write a dialogue between you and your friend on the importance of learning English:
A Dialogue Between Zunaid and Farhan on the Importance of Learning English
Zunaid: Assalamu Alaikum, Farhan! You seem deeply absorbed in that grammar workbook. What are you studying?
Farhan: Wa Alaikumus Salam, Zunaid! I am preparing for the communicative English test and practicing spoken sentence structures.
Zunaid: That is commendable. But as students of Islamic History and Culture, why should we devote so much time to learning English when Arabic and Bengali are our primary media of study?
Farhan: That is a common misconception, Zunaid. English is an indispensable international lingua franca. Today, high-standard scholarly works on Islamic archaeology, orientalist debates, and international historiography are produced and published predominantly in English. Without proficiency in English, our academic horizon remains limited.
Zunaid: I understand that aspect. But how does it benefit our future professional career?
Farhan: In contemporary competitive job markets, whether civil service examinations, diplomatic services, multi-national corporate jobs, or international NGO sectors, fluency in English is mandatory. Furthermore, if we wish to pursue higher postgraduate degrees or international research scholarships abroad, proficiency in English is an absolute prerequisite.
Zunaid: What about spreading the authentic message of Islam globally?
Farhan: Exactly! To present the peace, tolerance, and intellectual richness of Islam to the non-Muslim world, dialogue with foreign intellectuals, and refute false islamophobic stereotypes, English is our most effective communication tool.
Zunaid: You have made me realize that learning English is not merely passing an examination, but an empowering skill for global leadership and academic excellence.
Farhan: Indeed. We should practice speaking and reading standard English dailies together regularly.
Zunaid: I completely agree. Thank you, Farhan, for your inspiring insights.
Farhan: You are most welcome, Zunaid!
