২ নম্বর প্রশ্ন ও পূর্ণাঙ্গ উত্তর

2. Re-write the following sentences using the right form of verbs (any five): (Marks: 1 × 5 = 5)
(a) Why you (cry) now?
(b) Kalam speaks as if he (be) my boss.
(c) Would you mind (have) a cup of tea?
(d) Why you (go) to my home yesterday?
(e) If I had known the matter, I (give) up my bad habit.
(f) The man (plant) trees for 3 years.
(g) Each of the students (be) present.

২ নম্বর প্রশ্নের পূর্ণাঙ্গ সমাধান (সকল ৭টি বাক্যের সঠিক রূপ ও ব্যাকরণিক ব্যাখ্যা)

  • (a) Why are you crying now?
Explanation: The presence of the adverb ‘now’ indicates the Present Continuous tense. In an interrogative sentence, the auxiliary verb (‘are’) must precede the subject (‘you’).
  • (b) Kalam speaks as if he were my boss.
Explanation: In unreal/imaginary subjunctive clauses introduced by ‘as if’ or ‘as though’, when the main clause is in present tense, the ‘be’ verb in the subordinate clause takes the past subjunctive form ‘were’ for all persons.
  • (c) Would you mind having a cup of tea?
Explanation: The polite expression ‘Would you mind’ is invariably followed by a gerund (verb + -ing).
  • (d) Why did you go to my home yesterday?
Explanation: The time marker ‘yesterday’ requires the Past Indefinite tense. In a Wh-question in the past simple, the auxiliary ‘did’ precedes the subject, followed by the base form of the main verb (‘go’).
  • (e) If I had known the matter, I would have given up my bad habit.
Explanation: In a Third Conditional sentence (if + Past Perfect), the independent result clause requires: subject + would have / could have / might have + past participle of the main verb (given).
  • (f) The man has been planting trees for 3 years.
Explanation: An action that started in the past and is still ongoing with a period of time indicated by ‘for 3 years’ requires the Present Perfect Continuous tense (has/have been + verb-ing).
  • (g) Each of the students was (is) present.
Explanation: The distributive pronoun ‘Each’ takes a singular verb, regardless of the plural noun following the preposition (‘students’). Therefore, the singular form ‘was’ (or ‘is’) is grammatically correct.

  • (e) Active: Why did you do the work?
Passive: Why was the work done by you?
    Rule: Wh-word + was/were + object + V3 + by + subject pronoun.

Passive: Let never a lie be told. (Or: Let a lie never be told.)

Part C — Composition (Marks — 30)

৯ নম্বর প্রশ্ন ও পূর্ণাঙ্গ উত্তর

9. Write a paragraph on the following topic (any one): (Marks: 10)
(a) Deforestation
(b) Globalization

৯ নম্বর প্রশ্নের পূর্ণাঙ্গ সমাধান (উভয় প্যারাগ্রাফের পূর্ণাঙ্গ রচনা)

(a) Deforestation (বন উজাড়করণ)

Deforestation refers to the indiscriminate, large-scale cutting down and clearing of forest trees and woodlands without adequate replanting. It has emerged as one of the most perilous environmental crises threatening the ecological equilibrium of our planet. Forests are widely revered as the “lungs of the Earth,” as they absorb vast volumes of atmospheric carbon dioxide and release life-sustaining oxygen through photosynthesis. However, driven by rapid population growth, unplanned urbanization, agricultural expansion, commercial timber logging, and industrialization, vast tracts of lush tropical rainforests are being destroyed at an alarming velocity. The catastrophic consequences of deforestation are multifaceted and far-reaching. First and foremost, it accelerates global warming and catastrophic climate change by causing massive greenhouse gas accumulation in the atmosphere. Furthermore, it results in the irreversible extinction of countless wildlife species due to habitat destruction, disrupts the natural water cycle, triggers severe soil erosion, and exacerbates seasonal droughts and devastating flash floods. In a riverine and low-lying nation like Bangladesh, the degradation of forest reserves in the Sundarbans and Chittagong Hill Tracts directly exposes millions to severe cyclones and tidal surges. Islam places paramount emphasis on preserving nature; Prophet Muhammad (Sm.) declared that planting a tree whose fruits and shade benefit living beings is regarded as continuous charity (Sadaqah Jariyah). To avert an environmental catastrophe, governments and civil society must enforce stringent anti-logging legislation, launch aggressive afforestation drives, promote renewable energy alternatives, and foster mass public consciousness to preserve our green heritage for future generations.

(b) Globalization (বিশ্বায়ন)

Globalization is the multidimensional process of worldwide integration, interconnectedness, and interdependence among nations, economies, cultures, and societies. Powered primarily by phenomenal advancements in information and communication technology (ICT), digital media, satellite communication, and modern transportation, globalization has transformed the expansive Earth into a closely-knit “global village.” In the economic sphere, globalization fosters free trade, liberalizes international investment, dismantles tariff barriers, and enables transnational corporations to distribute goods, services, capital, and labor seamlessly across national frontiers. Developing economies, including Bangladesh, have derived significant benefits, particularly through the expansion of the export-oriented ready-made garments (RMG) industry and the influx of foreign remittances from migrant professionals. Culturally, it promotes intercultural dialogue, educational exchange, and instant access to universal knowledge and cutting-edge scientific research. However, globalization is not without grave pitfalls. It has often widened economic disparity between developed and developing hemispheres, led to cultural imperialism that erodes indigenous languages and religious traditions, and facilitated the rapid cross-border spread of financial crises and pandemics. From an Islamic vantage point, universal brotherhood, moral accountability, and beneficial knowledge-sharing are highly commended, provided that ethical norms and local identities are safeguarded. In conclusion, globalization is an irresistible contemporary reality; the challenge lies in managing its mechanisms judiciously to ensure equitable prosperity, social justice, and cultural dignity for all humanity.

Or,
Write an application to the principal of your madrasah seeking permission for using computer lab of the madrasah. (Marks: 10)

১০ নম্বর প্রশ্নের পূর্ণাঙ্গ সমাধান (উভয় দরখাস্তের পূর্ণাঙ্গ ফরম্যাট)

Option 1: Application for increasing library facilities

Date: 25 October 2024
To
The Principal
Darul Ulum Kamil Madrasah, Dhaka.
Subject: Application for increasing library facilities and expanding academic resources.

Respected Sir,

With due respect and humble submission, we, the students of the Department of Dawah and Islamic Studies of your esteemed institution, beg to draw your kind and benign attention to the pressing inadequacy of our madrasah library facilities.

It is universally recognized that a well-equipped library is the intellectual heart of an academic institution. Although our madrasah possesses a traditional library, the current collection of books and reading arrangements fall far short of the academic requirements of Honours and Masters students. In particular, we face an acute shortage of standard commentaries of the Holy Quran (Tafsir), classical and contemporary Hadith research collections, modern jurisprudence (Fiqh) encyclopedias, English reference works, and subscription-based academic journals. Moreover, the seating capacity in the reading lounge is extremely congested, accommodating hardly thirty students at a time, while the lighting and ventilation are inadequate for prolonged research study. In the absence of an automated catalog and computer-aided internet search system, searching for specific manuscripts and research papers has become exceptionally cumbersome.

We, therefore, fervently pray and hope that your honor would be benevolent and magnanimous enough to sanction adequate funds to procure the latest reference volumes, expand reading room seating, and install internet-connected digital terminals in the library at an early date, for which noble act of benevolence we shall remain ever grateful.

Yours obediently,
The Students of Fazil (Honours) 1st Year
Department of Dawah and Islamic Studies
Darul Ulum Kamil Madrasah, Dhaka.

Option 2: Application seeking permission for using computer lab

Date: 25 October 2024
To
The Principal
Al-Jamiatul Islamia Fazil Madrasah, Chattogram.
Subject: Application seeking permission to access and utilize the madrasah computer lab.

Respected Sir,

With utmost reverence and profound respect, I, on behalf of the undergraduate students of the Department of Dawah and Islamic Studies, have the honor to submit this prayer for your sympathetic consideration.

In accordance with the modern revised curriculum prescribed by the Islamic Arabic University, our academic syllabi now incorporate comprehensive assignments, digital research projects, Basic English presentations, and computerized Dawah methodologies. To successfully compose our academic research monographs, access international online Islamic libraries, and practice Arabic and English language typing software, regular hands-on computer access is indispensable. However, many students residing in the madrasah dormitory lack personal laptops or reliable high-speed internet connectivity. The madrasah boasts a state-of-the-art computer lab which currently remains unutilized during after-class hours in the afternoon.

We, therefore, earnestly entreat your generosity and kindness to grant us official permission to use the computer lab from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM on academic weekdays under the supervision of the lab demonstrator, so that we may enrich our digital literacy and submit our academic assignments punctually.

Yours faithfully,
Mohammad Raihanul Islam
Roll No: 12, Class: Fazil (Honours) 1st Year
On behalf of the students of Dawah & Islamic Studies.

১১ নম্বর প্রশ্নের পূর্ণাঙ্গ সমাধান (উভয় সংলাপের পূর্ণাঙ্গ মডেল)

Option 1: Dialogue on the Importance of Reading Newspaper Regularly

Setting: In front of the madrasah library entrance after classes.
Participants: Hasan (a regular newspaper reader) and Farhan (his classmate).

  • Hasan: Assalamu Alaikum, Farhan! Where are you hurrying to?
  • Farhan: Wa Alaikumus Salaam, Hasan. I was heading home. Why do you look so engrossed holding those morning dailies?
  • Hasan: I just finished reading today’s English and Bengali newspapers in the reading room. I make it a daily habit to spend at least half an hour scanning the headlines and editorials.
  • Farhan: Really? In this age of smartphones and social media snippets, do you still find reading traditional newspapers necessary?
  • Hasan: Absolutely! Social media often spreads unverified rumors, clickbait, and superficial sensationalism. In contrast, reputed newspapers provide verified reports, in-depth analytical editorials, and balanced perspectives on national and international affairs.
  • Farhan: That is true, but what specific benefits does a university student gain from them?
  • Hasan: A newspaper is an indispensable storehouse of living knowledge. It keeps us updated on global politics, economic trends, scientific innovations, sports, and religious developments across the Muslim world.
  • Farhan: Does it also aid in language proficiency?
  • Hasan: Immensely! Reading standard English dailies like The Daily Star or The Independent enriches our vocabulary, introduces formal grammatical structures, and sharpens our critical writing faculties, which is invaluable for our university examinations and competitive career tests.
  • Farhan: You have opened my eyes, Hasan. I frequently struggled with general knowledge and formal essay composition.
  • Hasan: If you cultivate the habit of reading the editorial columns daily, you will notice a marked improvement in your analytical capability and worldview within a few months.
  • Farhan: Thank you so much for this illuminating advice. From tomorrow morning, I will join you in the library to read the daily papers regularly!
  • Hasan: You are most welcome, my brother. May Allah bless our pursuit of useful knowledge!

Option 2: Dialogue on Enriching English Speaking Skill

Setting: Campus cafeteria during leisure time.
Participants: Tanvir and Nayeem (both Fazil Honours 1st year students).

  • Tanvir: Assalamu Alaikum, Nayeem! You look somewhat pensive and worried. Is anything troubling you?
  • Nayeem: Wa Alaikumus Salaam, Tanvir. Yes, I was reflecting on our upcoming viva-voce and English presentation. While I can write English adequately, I feel extremely tongue-tied and hesitant whenever I attempt to speak.
  • Tanvir: Do not worry, my friend. That is a natural dilemma faced by many students who study through the vernacular medium. Speaking is an active oral skill that requires practical application rather than mere theoretical grammar memorization.
  • Nayeem: Exactly! But how can I overcome this crippling hesitation and enrich my speaking fluency?
  • Tanvir: The fundamental rule is: to learn to speak, you must speak! You must discard the fear of making grammatical errors. Remember, making mistakes is the first step toward communicative perfection.
  • Nayeem: But with whom should I practice? Most of our peers communicate only in our mother tongue.
  • Tanvir: We can form a dedicated English speaking circle among three or four close friends. We should pledge to converse exclusively in English for at least an hour every day, discussing everyday topics, Islamic history, and current affairs.
  • Nayeem: That sounds like a brilliant and feasible idea. What about pronunciation and listening comprehension?
  • Tanvir: You should regularly listen to authentic English news broadcasts on the BBC or Al Jazeera, and watch international Islamic lectures by eloquent speakers. Try shadowing their intonation and pronunciation.
  • Nayeem: How can I expand my active speaking vocabulary?
  • Tanvir: Instead of memorizing isolated word lists, learn complete idiomatic phrases and collocations, and use them immediately in your daily conversations. Thinking directly in English rather than translating from Bengali is another game-changer.
  • Nayeem: Fantastic! Shall we commence our mutual English speaking practice right from this afternoon?
  • Tanvir: Certainly! Let us begin right now. Consistent determination will surely make us fluent, articulate, and confident speakers insha’Allah.
  • Nayeem: Jazakallahu Khairan, Tanvir, for your wonderful encouragement and practical guidance!
