9. Write a paragraph on ‘Dhaka Metro Rail’ (Marks—10)

[৯. ‘ঢাকা মেট্রোরেল’ বিষয়ে একটি অনুচ্ছেদ রচনা করো (মান—১০):]

Dhaka Metro Rail: Transforming Urban Transit in Bangladesh

Dhaka Metro Rail, officially designated as the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system, stands as a historic milestone in the modern infrastructural development and public transportation landscape of Bangladesh. Inaugurated for commercial operation in December 2022, the MRT Line-6 connects the bustling northern quadrant of Uttara to the administrative and commercial epicenter of Motijheel. For decades, Dhaka had been chronically afflicted by paralyzing vehicular gridlock, immense environmental air pollution, and colossal economic losses amounting to billions of hours in lost productivity. The introduction of high-speed, electrically powered, air-conditioned metro trains has fundamentally revolutionized the daily commute of millions of residents, drastically slashing transit time between Uttara and Motijheel from over two hours of harrowing traffic to a seamless, comfortable journey of less than thirty-five minutes.

Engineered with cutting-edge technology under the financial and technical patronage of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Dhaka Metro Rail exemplifies modern urban engineering excellence. Elevated viaducts, noise barriers, state-of-the-art automatic fare collection systems using smart Rapid Passes, and fully accessible platforms for persons with special needs epitomize international standards. Beyond passenger convenience, the metro system plays a profound role in environmental sustainability by substituting thousands of fossil-fuel-burning buses and cars, thereby significantly curtailing carbon emissions and improving urban air quality. It has also generated robust economic momentum, stimulated local commercial enterprises near station vicinities, and bolstered women’s safety and professional mobility. As subsequent MRT lines expand across the capital, Dhaka Metro Rail will permanently anchor Bangladesh’s transformation into a modernized, sustainable, and technologically advanced smart nation.

Write a paragraph on ‘Victory Day’ (Marks—10)

[অথবা, ‘বিজয় দিবস’ বিষয়ে একটি অনুচ্ছেদ রচনা করো (মান—১০):]

Victory Day: The Glorious Dawn of Sovereign Bangladesh

Victory Day, celebrated solemnly and exuberantly across Bangladesh on December 16 each year, marks the most momentous and glorious milestone in our national history. It was on this unforgettable day in 1971 that the heroic freedom fighters (Mukti Bahini) and the allied armed forces secured the historic surrender of the Pakistani occupation military after nine months of an exceptionally brutal, bloody Liberation War. Led by the historic vision and indomitable leadership of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the entire Bengali populace stood united against political oppression, economic exploitation, and state-sponsored tyranny. The ultimate dawn of victory, however, came at a monumental sacrifice—costing the sacred lives of three million martyrs and the supreme honor of over two hundred thousand courageous women who suffered unthinkable brutality.

The annual commemoration of Victory Day begins with gun salutes at dawn and emotional floral tributes paid by millions of citizens, dignitaries, and freedom fighters at the National Martyrs’ Memorial (Jatiyo Smriti Soudho) in Savar. The entire nation is bedecked in the vibrant red and green colors of the sacred national flag, while educational institutions, madrasahs, and cultural organizations host seminars, recitations, and special prayers for the martyred souls. Victory Day is not merely an occasion for jubilant celebration; it serves as a perpetual source of patriotic inspiration, reminding current and future generations of their solemn responsibility to build a prosperous, equitable, and exploitation-free Bangladesh grounded in democracy, social justice, and national unity.

Recently, my elderly father, who was serving as a modest primary school teacher, has retired from his employment, and my family has permanently relocated to our rural village home.

At present, I have no close relatives or reliable acquaintances residing in Dhaka with whom I can secure accommodation. Renting an independent private bachelor residence in this metropolitan city is exceedingly exorbitant and financially impossible for my family to sustain. Furthermore, commuting from an unfamiliar and distant lodging causes immense physical exhaustion, posing severe impediments to my daily academic attendance, library research, and spiritual contemplation.

Under these circumstances, obtaining a safe, academically disciplined, and cost-effective seat in the Madrasah hostel is indispensable for the uninterrupted continuation of my higher religious and academic studies.

May I, therefore, earnestly pray and hope that your honor would be kind and benevolent enough to allocate me a seat in the Madrasah hostel and facilitate my academic pursuits, for which act of kindness I shall remain ever grateful.

I remain,
Sir,
Your most obedient pupil,

18 November 2022

The Honorable Mayor
Dhaka South City Corporation
Nagar Bhaban, Fulbaria, Dhaka.

Subject: Complaint regarding persistent acute crisis of gas supply in Mirpur/Demra locality.

Respected Mayor,

We, the long-suffering residents of Ward No. 67 under Demra within your esteemed City Corporation jurisdiction, beg to draw your kind and urgent attention to the unbearable and chronic crisis of household gas supply that has paralyzed domestic life across our entire neighborhood for the past four months.

It is deeply distressing to inform you that the supply of piped natural gas in our locality remains almost totally absent from early morning at 6:00 AM until late at night around 11:30 PM. Even during the late hours when minimal gas is available, the pressure is so abnormally negligible that it fails to ignite stoves, making regular cooking of daily meals virtually impossible. As a consequence, thousands of families—particularly school-going children, university students, working professionals, and ailing senior citizens—are forced to go without warm, nutritious sustenance, causing acute gastrointestinal distress and immense psychological frustration.

Many households are compelled to incur exorbitant additional expenses purchasing dangerous liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders, kerosene burners, or unhygienic street food, which imposes a crippling financial burden on low- and middle-income families who nonetheless continue paying their monthly utility gas bills faithfully.

Despite numerous formal appeals submitted to the local Titas Gas transmission authorities, no tangible measures have been instituted to rehabilitate the dilapidated distribution pipelines or elevate pressure levels.

In light of the foregoing acute humanitarian hardship, we fervently request your dynamic and decisive administrative intervention to liaise with the concerned energy ministry and Titas Gas transmission authorities so that standard gas pressure is restored without further delay.

Yours faithfully,
On behalf of the aggrieved residents of Ward No. 67,
Haji Rafiqul Islam, Demra, Dhaka
Al-Haj Mawlana Abdus Samad, Local Resident Representative

A Dialogue on the Importance of Reading Newspaper

Setting: The library corridor of the Madrasah campus during afternoon break.
Participants: Farhan (a studious Fazil student) and Tanvir (his classmate).

Farhan: As-salamu alaykum, Tanvir! How are you doing?
Tanvir: Wa alaykumus salam, Farhan. I am doing well, thank you. What are you reading so attentively?
Farhan: I am going through today’s issue of ‘The Daily Star’. I make it an invariable habit to spend at least half an hour every morning scanning national and international daily newspapers.
Tanvir: That is interesting, but with our demanding academic curriculum in Arabic and Hadith studies, do you really find newspaper reading that necessary?
Farhan: Absolutely, Tanvir! A newspaper is universally regarded as a storehouse of universal knowledge and the mirror of the contemporary world. Textbooks impart theoretical knowledge, but newspapers connect us intimately with the pulsing reality of global affairs, geopolitics, economic trends, and technological innovations.
Tanvir: I see your point. But how does it specifically assist an Honours student like us?
Farhan: In innumerable ways! Firstly, reading high-quality English newspapers dramatically enhances our lexical repertoire, grammatical mastery, and writing articulation. Secondly, it keeps us rigorously informed about competitive examinations, BCS guidelines, research fellowships, and job market dynamics. A student who neglects current affairs remains intellectually insular.
Tanvir: That is remarkably true. I frequently struggle when answering questions related to Bangladesh Studies and international affairs precisely because I ignore daily news.
Farhan: Exactly! Moreover, newspapers cultivate analytical critical thinking. By reading editorials and expert columns, we learn to evaluate diverse socioeconomic perspectives objectively rather than succumbing to rumors or sensationalism.
Tanvir: Thank you, Farhan, for opening my eyes to this indispensable habit. From tomorrow morning, I shall subscribe to a daily newspaper and devote regular time to reading it thoroughly.
Farhan: You are most welcome, Tanvir. Best wishes for your intellectual journey!
Tanvir: Thank you. Have a great day!

A Dialogue on the Positive and Negative Impacts of Facebook in Society

Setting: Campus cafeteria garden after class.
Participants: Salman and Tariq.

Salman: Good afternoon, Tariq. You seem entirely absorbed in your smartphone screen. What is keeping you so busy?
Tariq: Good afternoon, Salman. I was simply scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed and checking recent social notifications.
Salman: Indeed, Facebook has become ubiquitous in our contemporary society. But have you ever paused to contemplate its profound multidimensional impact on our personal lives and societal fabric?
Tariq: I certainly have. Facebook has democratized mass communication. It bridges colossal geographical distances, allowing us to connect instantaneously with distant family, academic peers, and global intellectual communities. Furthermore, it serves as a powerful instrument for social activism, disaster relief mobilization, and e-commerce entrepreneurship for young graduates.
Salman: I fully concede those merits, Tariq. However, the alarming downsides cannot be disregarded. Excessive and unchecked addiction to Facebook is squandering colossal amounts of productive study hours among our youth. Many students suffer from acute sleep deprivation, ocular strain, and diminished academic performance.
Tariq: You are undeniably right. Even more perilous is the rapid dissemination of fake news, doctored videos, and malicious rumors, which often incite sectarian disharmony and social unrest. Moreover, constant exposure to superficial, idealized portrayals of others’ lives breeds severe psychological depression, anxiety, and a toxic fear of missing out (FOMO).
Salman: Precisely. Virtual interactions are increasingly cannibalizing genuine, empathetic face-to-face human relationships. Furthermore, cybersecurity hazards, identity theft, and algorithmic polarization present critical challenges to individual privacy.
Tariq: So the fundamental question lies in how responsibly we utilize this technological tool. Technology in itself is neither moral nor immoral; its virtue or vice depends entirely on human application.
Salman: Well stated! If we utilize Facebook constructively for educational collaboration, professional networking, and positive societal advocacy while imposing strict temporal self-discipline, it becomes a boon. If abused, it inevitably transforms into a social curse.
Tariq: An exceptional synthesis, Salman. I will certainly calibrate my daily screen time and exercise greater discernment while navigating social media.
Salman: That is the mark of a wise and conscious scholar. Let us head to the mosque for Asr prayer now.
