Part C—Composition (Marks—30)

9. Write a paragraph on ‘Corruption’. (Marks—10)

Corruption

Corruption is one of the most destructive social evils and formidable barriers to socio-economic development in contemporary society. It refers to the dishonest, unethical, and fraudulent abuse of entrusted power, authority, or public office for illegitimate personal or collective gain. In developing countries like Bangladesh, corruption manifests in various notorious forms, such as bribery, embezzlement of public funds, extortion, nepotism, money laundering, and administrative red-tapism. The root causes of corruption include moral degradation, lack of religious consciousness, unchecked greed, insufficient accountability, weak enforcement of rule of law, and institutional loopholes. The catastrophic consequences of corruption are pervasive: it widens the chasm between the rich and the poor, deprives marginalized citizens of basic human rights, discourages domestic and foreign investments, and severely cripples public service delivery. Moreover, from the Islamic moral standpoint, bribery and corruption are strictly condemned as grievous sins. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) solemnly declared that both the bribe-giver and the bribe-taker are destined for the Hellfire. To eradicate this deeply rooted national cancer, a comprehensive and relentless anti-corruption drive is essential. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) must be granted absolute institutional autonomy, legal procedures should be digitized to ensure complete transparency, exemplary punishments must be executed against corrupt officials without political bias, and value-based moral education must be cultivated from the grassroots level. Only through concerted national vigilance and ethical integrity can a corruption-free, equitable, and prosperous society be established.

10. Write an application to the Principal of your Madrasah for opening a language club in your Madrasah. (Marks—10)

Date: 25 October 2023
To,
The Principal,
Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasah,
Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Subject: Application for permission and patronage to establish a Language Club.

Respected Sir,
With due respect and humble submission, we, the students of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature, beg to draw your kind and benign attention to the following matter. In this era of rapid globalization and technological advancement, acquiring communicative proficiency in international languages, particularly English and Arabic, has become an indispensable prerequisite for academic excellence and future career competitiveness.

Although our respected teachers provide comprehensive grammatical knowledge in formal classrooms, we lack an interactive co-curricular platform where students can actively practice spoken communication, debating, creative writing, and public speaking skills. Establishing a modern “Language Club” on our campus will offer students a golden opportunity to conduct weekly discussions, organize debate competitions, practice language audio-visual materials, and develop four basic linguistic skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

We, therefore, fervently pray and hope that your honor would be benevolent enough to grant us necessary permission and allocate an appropriate room equipped with basic learning aids to establish the proposed Language Club, and thereby oblige us.

Yours obediently,
On behalf of the students,
Muhammad Raihanul Islam

11. Write a dialogue between you and your friend about the impact of ‘Climate Change’ in our country. (Marks—10)

A Dialogue on the Impacts of Climate Change in Bangladesh

Myself: Assalamu Alaikum, Tanvir! How are you doing today?

Tanvir: Wa Alaikumus Salam, Raihan! I am doing well, but I am deeply disturbed by the erratic weather and frequent natural disasters reported in today’s national dailies.

Myself: You have raised a very grave issue. Indeed, global climate change has transformed from a scientific forecast into an alarming humanitarian reality.

Tanvir: Absolutely! Although Bangladesh is responsible for less than 0.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, our country is ranked among the most vulnerable nations on the planet. Isn’t that tragic?

Myself: It truly is a colossal injustice. Our geographical positioning as a low-lying delta makes us exceptionally susceptible to sea-level rise, erratic monsoons, and extreme weather phenomena.

Tanvir: Exactly! What specific catastrophic impacts are we already witnessing across Bangladesh?

Myself: The consequences are staggering. In coastal districts like Satkhira, Khulna, and Bagerhat, rising sea levels are causing massive saline water intrusion into agricultural lands and sweet water reservoirs. As a result, millions of farmers are losing their fertile cropland, leading to an unprecedented wave of climate refugees migrating towards congested urban centers like Dhaka.

Tanvir: Not only that, we are also experiencing catastrophic flash floods in Sylhet and Sunamganj, severe riverbank erosion along the Jamuna and Meghna, and prolonged heatwaves during the summer seasons.

Myself: Yes, it threatens our food security, public health, and ecological biodiversity. Experts warn that if global temperatures rise by 1.5°C to 2°C, nearly 17% of our coastal territory might be permanently submerged by 2050.

Tanvir: That is horrifying! What urgent steps must be taken to mitigate this existential threat?

Myself: At the national level, we must heavily invest in climate adaptation strategies, such as building robust coastal embankments, inventing saline-tolerant crop varieties, expanding massive coastal green belts through afforestation, and transitioning towards renewable solar energy. At the international level, developed nations must honor their climate finance commitments under the Paris Agreement to compensate vulnerable countries.

Tanvir: Truly said! Every citizen should also practice eco-friendly habits and plant trees regularly.

Myself: Precisely. Thank you so much, Tanvir, for this insightful and awareness-raising discussion.

Tanvir: You are most welcome, Raihan. Take care and goodbye!
